Good neighbours... ?

Two countries in which I'm interested. Japan, as it may be obvious since I've always been attracted by its language and culture. And South Korea, whose language I'm starting to learn too (quite slowly, that's right).

Two countries among which some old grudges from the IIWW, (indeed a dark period in recent history, in which the Japanese did some terrible things to the Koreans) are still alive. It's not strange that these grudges still remain, but I think too many years have passed since then and both countries should look at one another and advance into the future as good neighbours and friends.

Those atrocities from the past must not be forgotten, of course. But I think that, nowadays, more than 70 years after that, hatred and resentment between both countries have no sense - instead they are an obstacle for mutual understanding.

Let's look forward to the future.

最近買った、日本国旗と勧告国旗のバッジ。

韓日関係の調和のため、いいお隣さんとして仲良く両国一緒に未来へ歩き、戦争からの憎しみを忘れて互いを理解したらいいな、と僕は思う。　それにぼくにとって、その文化と言語に興味のある二つの国だ。　

だからこそ、両国のバッジを買って、共にバッグに貼ることにしたのだ。

He querido que ambos países, rivales y enemigos históricos desde la época de la II Guerra Mundial y que aún conservan muchos rencores, y en cuyos respectivos idiomas y culturas tengo un gran interés, estén ahí los dos juntos, compartiendo un espacio común, esperando que algún día los resentimientos que aún permanecen como resultado de aquella terrible época desaparezcan para siempre y los dos países avancen juntos, como buenos vecinos condenados a entenderse, hacia el futuro.

Ha pasado demasiado tiempo y hay cosas que, si bien es cierto no deben olvidarse para evitar que puedan repetirse alguna vez, tampoco debemos permitir que nos contaminen con la cizaña, siempre difícil de arrancar, del odio y el resentimiento. Máxime cuando la inmensa mayoría de población actual no ha vivido aquella época y no tiene culpa ni responsabilidad de lo sucedido...
